Public transport in Zagreb is based on trams and buses and is easy to use for everyday travel. The city is also very walkable, especially in the centre, so you will not always need to rely on public transport.
Trams and buses
Trams and buses run daily from around 4 in the morning until midnight. In addition, night lines operate from midnight to 4 in the morning, although they run less frequently. Night lines can be either trams or buses, depending on the route.
Tickets and pricing
Single tickets are available depending on how long you need them:
- 30 minutes — €0.53
- 60 minutes — €0.93
- 90 minutes — €1.33
You can buy paper tickets at kiosks such as Tisak or iNovine, or directly from the driver (at a higher price).
Tickets are also available through the Moj ZET app. After creating an account, you can buy tickets digitally by scanning a QR code or using NFC inside the vehicle.
Student monthly pass
For students, the most practical option is a monthly pass.
To get one, you need to fill out a form and have it confirmed by your university. After that, you can complete the process at any ZET sales point. Once your profile is created, you can also connect it to the Moj ZET app.
The student monthly pass costs €13.27 and includes unlimited travel on all trams and buses, which makes it the most convenient and affordable option.
Important to know
Make sure you always have a valid ticket when using public transport. Ticket inspections are common, and fines for not having a valid ticket typically range from €60 to €110.
Final note
Public transport in Zagreb is reliable and affordable, and once you get used to it, it becomes one of the easiest ways to move around the city.
